The Internet is one of the major sources of information for Brazilians, and blogs play a major role. We will find out in this article which are the most influential blogs in Brazil in 2014.

The Brazil Business published an article about the most influential blogs in 2012. Since then, the scenario has changed a bit: blogs are still widely accessed, but there is a higher demand for opinative blogs, that do not follow the traditional online journalism model. Also, bloggers are reaching new areas and audiences with the use of vlogs (video blogs, like on YouTube) and apps like Instagram.

According to data from Ibope, nearly half of all Brazilians use websites as their main daily source of information. With the ever growing power of social networks, like Facebook, sharing pages and links online have simply become one of the main ways to get informed.

While some defend that getting informed via personal blogs - written by anyone that holds any kind of information - is the future of journalism and internet, other claim that there is a risk due to the lack of responsibility and fact checking by some bloggers.

Nevertheless, Brazilians are heavily influenced by blogs, in various areas. Below, we have listed ten categories and the most influential blogs in each area.

Politics

With the presidential elections in 2014 and the recent protests by Brazilians, these blogs are gaining more attention and followers. Blogs from “Reinaldo Azevedo” and “Rodrigo Constantino” usually attract those who identify more with the conservative wing, whilst those that identify with the left wing are usually attracted to blogs like “Blog do Sakamoto” and “Conversa Afiada”.

Economy

Brazil’s economy is currently in the spotlight as economists claim that growth is slowing down and the growth has not been what was expected. Some of the main blogs that leave the economy jargons aside and bring information with an easier language are still the same ones listed in the 2012 ranking, blogs from “Miriam Leitão” and “O Economista”.

Fashion

Being a fashion blogger is the dream of many young girls. Inspired by the success of bloggers like “Thassia Naves” and “Lala Rudge” - who are also heavy users of Instagram - the number of blogs in this category has grown immensely since 2012.

Traveling

The tourism industry in Brazil is huge, just like the country. Brazilian blogs about travelling bring information on both local and international tourism. Sometimes they are sponsored by agencies to offer promotions and special packages to its visitors.

Religion

The internet was initially seen as a challenge for most religions, but it has now become a powerful preaching tool. Since religions greatly influence the lifestyle of Brazilians, blogs like the ones from “Edir Macedo” and “Salvem a Liturgia” are very popular among their followers.

Music

Several Brazilian blogs about music have gained notoriety in the past few years, mainly for bringing fresh information about foreign bands and musicians. Some of the main blogs in this category are “Popload” and “Música na Veia”.

Culture and Entertainment

This category groups the most accessed blogs in Brazil. Some of them were created by famous comedians, like “Kibe Loco” and “Jacaré Banguela”. Others follow similar models to those seen abroad, like “YouPIX” and “Hypeness”.

Health and Fitness

Another category where bloggers have vast influence is on other social networks like Instagram. Some are even criticized for posting fitness tips without being nutritionists or having a Physical Education degree, like Gabriela Pugliesi’s “Tips4Life”.

Sports

Most influential sport blogs in Brazil are related to soccer. They are popular since these pages are often the first ones to release information about transfers and from backstage at Brazil’s favorite sport.

Other Blogs

There are blogs about anything and everything on the internet, so it is hard to condense everything into just a few categories. The ten blogs below are very popular amongst Brazilians, despite the fact that they do not fit into any of the categories above. Some are controversial, some apply to a very specific niche, but all of them are highly influential.
