In Portuguese Tax on Conformity Assessment is named Taxa de Avaliação da Conformidade.

Inmetro is responsible for the conformity evaluation of products, aiming to provide information to consumers and protect them regarding health and safety concerns, as well as stimulate fair competition and quality improvement of products. The Tax on Conformity Assessment funds the activities of Inmetro. It was created in 2011 and became effective in 2012.

The tax applies to services and products registered with Inmetro whose conformity evaluation to regulations is mandatory.

  • permission and registration renewal of products having already been evaluated for regulation conformity: BRL 47.39
  • permission and registration renewal of services having already been evaluated for regulation conformity: BRL 1,197.48.

These taxes must be paid using a GRU issued by Inmetro. After the registration request, the product or service is registered in the system which automatically issues the GRU for payment. After the GRU is paid, Inmetro will check the registration request and do the analysis.
