If you have been looking for information about doing business in Brazil I'm sure you have noticed that there is remarkably much information about why to do business in Brazil but very little about how to do business in Brazil.

Since you are reading this article right now there's a big chance you attended an information meeting about Brazilian business or maybe have read a story in the mainstream press about the fantastic opportunities that exist in the Brazilian market.

Here at The Brazil Business we are all focused on doing business in Brazil, not only telling you why it's a good idea. Let us give a couple of tips about how you can get started doing business in Brazil today.

Attend to a trade show in Brazil

It's enough written on the web about the importance of personal relationship when doing business in Brazil. We even wrote an article about how to tell your story for a while ago.

There's no better place to meet people from your industry than on a trade-show, and the best thing is that most people attend to create new relationships. With more than 9000 industry events just in São Paulo every year I'm sure you can find an event for your industry.

(If you can't find a trade show in your industry, drop us an e-mail)

Keep in mind that conferences in Brazil that market themselves as "international" will normally provide simultaneous translation to English for speeches that are held in Portuguese.

Teaming up with a neutral 3rd party

After attending to a tradeshow in Brazil and starting to build some relationships in your industry it's important to have somebody on the ground in Brazil that you trust.

If you have a product or service that can be sold through a distributor you may be able to leverage from your Brazilian distributor's experience. However keep in mind that a distributor will fear the possibility that you open your own office one day in Brazil. The distributor will most likely not engage in any activity that can result in you getting your own office in Brazil.

We will not recommend to rely entirely on the following professionals to take care of your business interests in Brazil:

  • Accountants
  • Brokers
  • Lawyers
  • PR experts

They might know your industry from their professions point of view, but in the end of the day they will not provide the complete overview of your business.
